The first example of this flaw to make the headlines emerged as a result of the Sony Pictures Entertainment hack, which saw the stolen data from the company's website used to send phishing emails to users. However, the revelation sent a wave of users running to Google's support page with questions about their own accounts. The vulnerability stems from the fact that Google requires its users to log into their Gmail account using forms that enable users to enter their user names, passwords and other personal information. Once a user has authenticated themselves, Google will automatically log them into any website that they have linked their account to, which includes their blog and the inbox view of their email. For those unaware, XSS is a vulnerability in web applications that allows an attacker to inject malicious content, including JavaScript code, into a website that a victim would normally have no say in. It is a common security flaw in websites that use a client-side scripting language, such as JavaScript, because it is easy for the attacker to exploit. Currently, Gmail doesn't appear to prompt users that the site they are about to log into could be a malicious site. However, if it was to accept logins from malicious websites that have been hacked, the attack would have full access to the user's account. Google's support page for Gmail suggests that if a user receives a suspicious email from a site they have linked their account to, they should not click on the link and instead type the URL into their browser's address bar. But this advice may not be enough to warn users, as they could easily be tricked into doing the same if they were sent a link to a malicious website via a phishing email. In addition, those running Windows systems are being urged by Google to use a newer version of its web browser, Chrome, to access Gmail, as the latest version of Chrome protects users from this particular vulnerability. Although Gmail has issued the warnings, it does not currently appear to be fixing the vulnerability itself.Dysregulation of the JNK signaling pathway in non-small cell lung cancer.
